Linux in Lilliput
Well half a year has passed since Linux Girl last wrote about the invasion of the tiny, Linux-powered PCs, and she's delighted to report that the trend has shown no sign of slowing down. No indeed! "Tiny $57 PC is like the Raspberry Pi, but faster and fully open" is one headline that recently appeared, for example. "Meet the PengPod, a 'true Linux' tablet starting at $120" is yet another.

SwiftKey adds Australian English dictionary
Good news, Australians -- no longer will your unique contributions to the English language go unnoticed. SwiftKey has announced that it's added full Aussie dictionary support in the latest version of its leading SwiftKey 3 keyboard app. SwiftKey says Assues are 30 percent more likely to use the word "barbecue" than dreary Brits, and twice as likely to bust out the old favorite "mate." So if you're planning a barbecue with your mates, you'll hopefully find it easier to say so with SwiftKey 3.
The new English (AU) language option can be found along with the many other flavors of the English language under Languages & layouts" in the main SwiftKey menu.
To celebrate the launch of its Australian dictionary, SwiftKey is also giving Aussies 50 percent off the standard price of SwiftKey 3, so there's an added incentive to give it a try if you're not already on-board.

Torus is an impressive 3D Tetris game powered by HTML5
You rotate the ring itself with the arrow keys, while a Tetris-like piece slowly (excruciatingly slowly, in fact) descends from the top. As soon as you make a solid line, it disappears.
Not all pieces are Tetris-like; some of them wouldn't really work with a regular Tetris game but are a good fit for Torus' 3D format.
Torus is ideal for playing at the office, because it has absolutely no soundtrack. The game is dead-quiet. It's also very very slow (slow enough for me to mention it twice in one post) so you can safely look away for a moment and then keep playing. Also, as soon as the game loses focus, it automatically pauses.
Bottom line: It's an impressive demo of the power of HTML5; if it were a bit faster, it would have some serious addictive potential.

Next Issue grows iPad library with addition of eight new magazine titles
Next Issue -- the service unofficially billed as the Netflix of digital magazines -- has just announced an expansion of its catalog, adding eight additional titles to its tablet-based offering. This recent inclusion of big names brings the company's impressive library to a total of 80 even, letting iPad users now peruse the likes of New York Magazine, Food & Wine and Men's Fitness, just to name a few. Pricing for both Unlimited subscription tiers remains unchanged, with $10/mo still netting users access to 73 monthly and bi-weekly titles, while the more premium $15/mo service opens up the entire archive. As of now, these new additions won't work on Android slates, but the company promises "work is underway" to make them available across the board. Hit up the break to check out the official release.

Samsung teams up with Peel to expand second screen TV app internationally
Peel, a so-called "second screen" app used as a TV guide (and in some cases to control your TV), has been available for download for some time now. The company has even struck a deal with Samsung previously to include it on devices like the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus. Now the two companies are teaming up to expand the usage of Peel internationally and on more devices.
This update will bring localized TV information to 20 new countries in 13 languages, focusing mainly on Europe and Southeast Asia. Samsung is aiming to add complete IR functionality to additional tablet devices in the future so users can control their TVs with the app as well.
Current devices with IR, like some Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note 10.1 models, already have the functionality and can unlock the new features with a free update in the Play Store at the link above.

Dell's $1,549 Ubuntu-based XPS 13 goes on sale, $50 more than Windows variant
What once was just an internal skunkworks project, Dell's Project Sputnik has taken off with the release of the XPS 13 Developer Edition. The thin and light darling of the Ultrabook crowd is now shipping with a Precise Pangolin Ubuntu build pre-installed, along with feature-complete drivers that ensure maximum peripheral compatibility right out of the box. Also bundled in the XPS 13 are a couple of Project Sputnik's open source tools -- Profile Tool and Cloud Launcher -- that are designed to help developers install and deploy their projects quickly and efficiently. The hardware packs quite a punch, with either an Intel i5 or i7 Ivy Bridge CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 256 GB SATA III SSD. All that Linux goodness comes at a cost, however -- the Developer Edition retails for $1,549, which is around $50 more than the Windows equivalent. Still, it might be well worth it for one of the best specced pre-assembled open-source laptops we've seen to date.

Sony moved 525K PlayStation 3 consoles during Black Friday week, 160K Vitas
Microsoft and Nintendo aren't the only game console manufacturers enjoying Black Friday frenzy -- Sony today announced that over 525K PlayStation 3 consoles were sold in the US between November 18th and 24th (which includes the big day), adding to the 70 million PS3s in the world. Another 160K PlayStation Vitas were sold between the 19th and 25th, spurred by hefty Sony-backed discounts. The numbers mark a nine percent increase over last year's PS3 sales; as this is the Vita's first Black Friday year, 160K will be the number to beat in 2013. Without offering any actual numbers, Sony also says its PlayStation Plus subscription rate via PlayStation Network increased 259% last week -- it's unclear if this includes the free subs found in many Black Friday bundles and individual games. The service grew considerably recently with the launch of PS Plus on Vita, and bolstered its free game lineup with some of the Vita's best offerings, no doubt attracting many new customers.

Xbox SmartGlass: Not Quite the One, But Worth a Date or Two
I've been watching Microsoft's Xbox 360 transformation from online gaming console to living room media center for years, so when Microsoft's Xbox SmartGlass app showed up earlier this month, I had to give it a whirl. My personal Xbox 360 use is fairly limited to playing a few games here and there as well as assisting small children as they attempt to play games.
