HTC 'Droid Incredible 4G' appears in Verizon internal screen

The "Droid Incredible 4G" name has appeared a couple of times over the past few months, suggesting the imminent arrival of a new entry in HTC and Big Red's Droid Incredible series. Back in February we even got our first look at what seems to be a Droid Incredible-like device with Verizon 4G LTE connectivity.

Today there's even more evidence to suggest that a new Dinc may be on the way. A Verizon internal document sent to us by a tipster references the HTC Droid Incredible 4G and its model number, ADR6410. There's also some slightly less interesting stuff about MAP (minimum advertised price) policy, though no specific prices to speak of at this stage.

With the HTC One X and One S coming to Europe in the next week, and a U.S. launch likely within the next month, it makes sense for Verizon to get its own next-gen HTC handset in the near future. Purported specs include a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and an 8MP shooter. Like the One S, the display is said to be AMOLED-based rather than One X's SLCD2. On the software side, we'd expect to see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.0.

Sounds a lot like a 4G LTE version of the One S to us. Verizon people, be sure to drop by the comments and let us know if you're tempted.

Ken Lang could perform miracles. In 1990 we would head off to a bar near where we were going to graduate school for computer science, and we would bring a Go board. Then we would drink and play Go for five hours. At the end of the five hours, after a grueling battle over the board, I remember this one time when magically Ken would show up with two girls who were actually willing to sit down and hang out with two guys who had a GO BOARD in front of them. How did Ken do that? Fast forward: 1991, CMU asks me to leave graduate school, citing lack of maturity. The professor who threw me out still occasionally calls me up asking me when I’m going to be mature enough.

Speedtest.net overhauled with new look, new features

Speedtest.net is pretty much the go-to site for quickly figuring out how fast (or slow) your connection really is and comparing the numbers your ISP boasts with what it actually delivers. And now it's got a new coat of paint and a couple of neat features. In brief:

• New UI: The map widget is much improved; it actually looks like a map now, and it's easy to see where you are.
• Smart server selection: If there are several test servers nearby, Speedtest will now ping each to see which has the least latency and use that for the test. You can still specify servers manually, too.
• User accounts: You can sign up for a free account and aggregate results from several computers/connections.
• Speed Wave: This new feature lets you add your test results to the results of many other users, and get a nice composite view.

All in all, you get some nice, new functionality and a snazzier interface to boot. Nice!

“Girls Around Me” Creeper App Just Might Get People To Pay Attention To Privacy Settings

Cult of Mac has a great write-up of an app for iOS called Girls Around Me, which essentially displays check-ins and public profiles of girls around you. With a little shift in context it could easily be confused for a hot new startup (discoverability meets speed dating!), but no, it really is just a way for guys to creep on nearby girls who have failed to lock down their info. It's sad, but maybe something like this is what people need to shock them into understanding just how much information they put online.
